Produce the show, then grow the audience around it
This is a fiction podcast hosted by a well-known Hollywood actor and author, with a loyal, engaged audience. The host reads short stories, and the show also runs author interviews and bonus content for its members on Patreon and Apple Podcasts Subscriptions.
The show is increasing its release schedule by about half, and moving from a single membership tier to a three-tier ladder. We are looking for one person to keep the production calendar moving and to build the promotion that brings new members to the show.
Both parts matter about equally. Steady, well-promoted releases are what grow the membership, so you will be measured on the calendar and on the membership.
What you will own
Production and publishing
- Plan and hold the monthly release calendar across Patreon and Apple Podcasts Subscriptions. Develop episode ideas and shape each episode's format.
- Find, invite and schedule guests for author interviews. A guest records only after their signed Interview Addendum is in hand.
- Run remote recording sessions on Riverside with the host: run the room, manage the tech and deliver clean source files.
- Edit bonus items. These are raw, simple edits: top and tail, obvious fixes, levels. The weekly story releases are cut by the show's editor, not by you.
- Publish every item: upload, show notes, metadata and scheduling, then confirm it landed correctly on both platforms.
Growth and membership
- Track what each membership tier promises every month, make sure it ships on time, and flag a gap before it turns into a missed month. Propose new tier ideas and benefits.
- Plan the social and promotional strategy, get it approved, then run it week to week: vertical clips from each episode, copy written for each platform, the weekly newsletter, the push behind every release and tier launch, and co-posts with the authors whose stories we run.
- Run cross-promotion with the magazines and authors in the show's orbit. Each approach comes from an approved list and uses an approved script.
- Report monthly on what moved and what did not, and change course based on the evidence.
Running the operation
- Handle the show's admin: scheduling, keeping files and assets organised, tracking story submissions, chasing approvals and keeping production documents current.
- Own deadlines and dependencies, and send a short written status against the calendar every week.
A typical month
This is a starting estimate that we will refine with you during the trial.
| Output | Per month |
|---|---|
| Bonus items | 8, recorded in two batch sessions with the host |
| Main releases | About 6, including 2 author interviews (edited by the show's editor) |
| Vertical clips | 18, three per main release |
| Social channels | 3 show accounts: Bluesky, Instagram and YouTube Shorts |
| Newsletters | 4, one per weekly release |
| Guest bookings | 2 |
That is roughly 80 of the 87 hours available each month: about 18 on recording and booking, 12 on bonus editing, 10 on publishing, 27 on promotion and 13 on admin.
What you will not own
- The host's own posts. The host writes their own posts in their own voice. You can prepare material, schedule and send reminders, but you never write as the host.
- The weekly story edits. These stay with the show's editor.
- The host's time. The host gives the show about two hours a week. Your job is to handle everything else, not to send more work their way.
- Author agreements, rights and licensing. You flag issues. You do not draft agreements or make promises.
- Payouts, pricing and finances. You can propose tier changes; the team sets prices.
How we will measure success
By day 90: the release calendar is being held, no tier commitments have been missed, an approved social strategy is running on a calendar, the guest pipeline is moving, and the weekly update arrives without a reminder.
After that: membership growth. Patron count and revenue per patron are the scoreboard, and we will track new members, retention and tier upgrades separately so we can see what is driving the results. A perfect calendar with flat membership is not a pass. We will agree specific day-60 and day-90 milestones with you when the trial starts.
How we work
- Hours: 20 hours a week on a contract basis.
- Recording window: sessions are live with the host in their morning or early afternoon, US Pacific time. In India that falls between about 9:30 pm and 4:30 am IST, depending on US daylight saving time. Expect about two batch sessions and two author interviews a month, each confirmed 24 hours ahead. Tell us plainly what you can commit to.
- Tools: Riverside, Patreon creator tools, Apple Podcasts Connect, an editing tool of your choice, a social scheduling tool and a shared calendar. Fast, stable internet and a quiet room are required.
- Team: you report to the executive producers and work day to day with the host, the show's editor and the agent of record. The team talks about the show daily and usually replies the same day. There is a Patreon growth strategist on the team as well, and promotion is mostly organic for now.
What we are looking for
Required: production
- You have produced a podcast end to end: planned, recorded, edited, published and kept to the release dates.
- You can run a remote recording session as the person in charge of it.
- You make clean, fast raw edits and know when to stop.
- You can manage a calendar and an admin load without being chased.
Required: social and growth
- You have built and run a content calendar for a real show or brand.
- You cut vertical clips yourself: choose the moment, caption it, format it for each platform and publish it.
- You write copy that fits each platform, and you know the difference between Bluesky and Instagram without being told.
- You read platform analytics and adjust based on them. You can explain why one post worked and another did not.
- Your show notes and newsletters read like a person wrote them.
Strongly preferred
- Experience on a membership or subscription show, and an understanding that each tier is a promise with a date on it.
- Hands-on experience with Patreon creator tools and Apple Podcasts Subscriptions.
- You have grown a small audience into a larger one and can show it.
- You love fiction and storytelling.
You do not need audio engineering credentials, a film degree or a following of your own.
Conditions of the engagement
- Nothing publishes without paperwork. No story, interview or guest segment is recorded or released without a signed author agreement or Interview Addendum. If you are unsure, stop and ask.
- Work made for the show belongs to the show. Everything you make, including clips and copy, is work made for hire with full assignment of rights.
- Member data is confidential. Names, emails, pledge levels and anything else in the dashboards stays within the engagement.
- You do not speak for the host. Show-account posts follow the approved voice and plan. Nothing goes out under the host's personal name.
How to apply
Apply through the form on this page. You will need:
- Two shows you produced, with one line on each saying what was actually yours.
- A link to a raw bonus edit you cut, under ten minutes.
- Three social clips or posts you made for a show or brand, with the numbers behind one of them and why you think it worked.
- Three sentences on how you would structure a mid-tier membership so it is worth paying for every month.
- Your time zone, and the earliest and latest you can reliably take a live session in US Pacific time.
Applications missing any of these will not be reviewed. Airful will review every application and interview the strongest candidates. Finalists complete a paid trial task: produce one bonus item end to end, from idea to published, together with its promotion package, within one week.
